A series of unfortunate events, and some missing key personnel, meant that St Andrew’s slipped up for the first time this season. This means that St Andrew’s now go to 3rd place in the league. The first half was a very tight affair. After 10 minutes Andrews Osakwe had to come off with a pulled hamstring, and as he had been decent this season the St Andrew’s defence was weakened.
Despite this, after 20 minutes St Andrew’s took the lead! Rafael Barajas stooped to send in a low header, to cap off a good debut.
Unfortunately, Homerton bounced straight back within 90 seconds. A long ball was not dealt withand the keeper was slow off his line. The Homerton forward was able to finish quite easily.
Half time was reached at 1 – 1.
After 60 minutes, probably the key moment of the game, St Andrew’s were awarded a penalty! Disaster occurred though as the bad weather contributed to the ball being ballooned over the bar. Still, it remained 1 – 1. Only 10 minutes before the end and more luck for Homerton. A fairly tame shot took a huge deflection off a St Andrew’s defender. The goalkeeper was wrong-footed, and the ball found the back of the net.
As the weather worsened, St Andrew’s couldn’t find a way back into the match.
1 – 2 final score. St Andrew’s can still be promoted, but any more losses will scupper that completely.
