How do I apply for a scholarship at St Andrew’s College Cambridge?

All scholarship applicants take a written scholarship assessment in the year of entry, alongside the standard admissions assessment. The scholarship test runs for around two hours and covers three papers: a Mathematics paper for quantitative subjects, an English paper for all candidates, and a subject paper or essay or portfolio for non-Mathematics candidates (chosen at the point of application). The test is taken online and can be scheduled across time zones for international applicants. After the test, shortlisted candidates are invited to a scholarship interview with a member of the academic team.

When should I apply for a scholarship?

Apply as early as possible in the admissions cycle. Scholarship funds are limited each year and are typically allocated on a rolling basis through the autumn and early spring before the September intake. Late applications can still be considered where places remain, but earlier candidates are at a significant advantage. The admissions team will confirm the current cut-off date for your intended intake when you enquire.

How are scholarship decisions made at St Andrew’s?

Decisions are made by a scholarship committee made up of senior academic and admissions staff. The committee considers the scholarship test results, the interview, academic transcripts and reference letters together. The strongest candidates are offered 35% scholarships; the next tier 20%, and the next 10%. All decisions are notified in writing, with feedback available to unsuccessful applicants on request.

How do I keep my scholarship while studying?

Scholarships are awarded on a per-year basis and renewed annually subject to performance. Renewal requires maintaining academic standards equivalent to an AAB profile in your subjects, sustaining 95% or higher attendance, and contributing positively to college life. The college defines ‘representing the college’ through specific activities including academic prizes, public-facing student events, mentoring of younger students, and ambassadorial activity at open days. Your personal tutor will guide each renewal review.
