Starting at a new college in a new country is a big and exciting step. If you are joining St Andrew’s College Cambridge this year from overseas, we cannot wait to welcome you. To help you feel prepared, here is a friendly guide to arriving in Cambridge and settling into life at our international sixth-form college.
Before you travel
A little preparation before you leave home goes a long way. Make sure your visa and travel documents are in order well in advance, and keep both paper and digital copies to hand. Our admissions team is experienced in supporting international students through the visa and enrolment process, so please do reach out if you have any questions, because that is exactly what we are here for.
It is also worth packing for the British weather, which can be changeable. A warm coat and a waterproof jacket are always a good idea, whatever the season.
Arriving and settling in
When you arrive, our team will be ready to help you settle in. Our boarding houses are safe, comfortable and welcoming, and our house staff are on hand around the clock to make sure you feel at home from day one. Living in boarding is one of the best parts of college life, giving you a ready-made community of friends from all over the world.
The first few days are all about finding your feet: getting to know your way around, meeting fellow students and staff, and beginning to feel part of the St Andrew’s family. It is completely normal to feel a mix of excitement and nerves, and everyone here understands that. You are not doing this alone.
A truly international community
One of the things that makes St Andrew’s so special is our diverse, global student community. Our students come from all over the world, which means you will quickly find yourself among people who understand exactly what it is like to study far from home. Firm friendships form fast, and the shared experience of studying in Cambridge creates bonds that last a lifetime.
Whatever your background, culture or language, you will be welcomed here. Difference is something we celebrate, and our international character is at the very heart of who we are.
Life in Cambridge
